November 14 - 19, 2013

An incredible opportunity to take a guided trip of art and architecture to Havana, Cuba coinciding with the Fall Cuba Exhibition at Helen Day Art Center.
Guided by a team of experts we will get familiar with Cuban architecture, we will visit artists's studios and art community projects, in some cases we will witness art demonstrations. All of this while getting aquainted with traditional Cuban food and tourism attractions in Havana. See full itinerary.

Thursday, November 14

Departing early morning from Miami International Airport to Jose Marti Airport, Havana

Arrival in Havana early afternoon

Lunch at El Aljibe restaurant

Panoramic tour of Plaza de la Revolucion, John Lennon Park, University of Habana.

Check in at Hotel Palacio de San Felipe in San Francisco Square

Presentation of Havana by architect Miguel Coyula

Dinner at NAO Paladar Old Havana

Friday, November 15 

Breakfast at hotel

Walking tour of four plazas of Old Havana with Architect Ayleen Robaina, from the Office of the city historian

Lunch at Dona Eutimia's paladar in Old Havana

Visit Ceramics Museum Old Havan with its Director Alejandro Alonso

Visit Museo de Art Decorativa

 

Cocktails and dinner art Curator Juanito Delgado's lovely apartment overlooking the iconic Havana Malecon

OPTIONAL: Attendance to Havana Classics, rooftop of Hotel Sevilla

Saturday, November 16

Meeting at Hotel Nacional

Tour of Bellas Artes, Fine Arts Museum -with private guide Aylet Ojeda

Visit to La Casa de la Amistad, famous for its architecture

Lunch at painter Mendive's farm on the outskirts of Havana. Mendive is considered Cuba's most important contemporary artist today.

Dinner at L'Atelier Paladar.

OPTIONAL: Visit to jazz cafe across the street from paladar

Sunday, November 17

Departure to Pinar del Rio

Visit Cigar factoryand community of Las Terrazas in Pinar del Rio where we will visit an old coffee plantation, the community and artist Lester Campa, famous landscape painter

Lunch at Casa del Campesino

Return to Havana

Evening on your own

Monday, November 18

Visit to Necroplolis of Colon with art historian Maritza Corrales

Visit painter and ceramist Jose Fuster's home in Jaimanitas

Visit to Superior Institute of Art ISA including visit to student's studios.

Visit La Lavanderia dn The Merger galleries.

Farewell gathering and cocktails at Hotel Nacional

Dinner at Calle Diez paladar

Tuesday, November 19 

Breakfast at hotel

Transfer to Jose Marti airport

Early afternoon flight departs for MIA
2:00 a.m. next day, arrival to MIA
